Monthly outlook for Mid-August

The lake is finally going through a bit of a change. With the longer nights, the water is cooling off a bit under darkness and the Bass & Stripers are starting to school up. You can find breaking fish from the splits all the way down lake. Some areas need overcast skies for this to happen, while other areas need sunlight. Great bait choices are Zoom Super Flukes, Pop R's, Walking baits like the Zara Spook, Vixen and Bombers new Badonkadonk. Look for some birds to start showing up by the end of the month also. The month of Sept can fish one of two ways. Either like in the summer of the beginning of fall. Either can be productive, as you will have fish through out the water column.

Bass- Shakey Heads, Texas Rigged worms and Drop Shots are continuing to catch fish. After the top water action is done for the morning, back off and fish Brush Piles, Rocks and Deep boat docks. Big crankbaits will also put fish in the boat for you at this time. Norman DD22's, Spro Little John DD's and BPS LEC 15 are my favorite choices.

Striper- Trolling and Live Bait are still the top producers right now, although if you can locate a good school of fish on your depth finder....Toothe Ache Spoons will get them for you. This pattern will last until the water temps start to cool down a good bit. Then it will be time to cast to them. Good places to look are the Splits, Rose Valley, Stubbs Bridge and Dike 3. Look for breaking fish first thing in the morning and cast top water baits to get a strike. Sea Shads are also a good choice for breaking fish.

Crappie- The Specks are still deep and will remain there until the water cools off to the low 70's, then you can catch them in the same places that you did in the spring. Right now, the bridge Pilings and deep brush piles will produce fish for you.

Lake Level- 20" low
Water Temps
Dike 3- low 90's
Mid Lake- Middle to upper 80's
Up Lake - Middle to upper 80's
